Founders Note: Why did we start Campuswink?
Blog post : One (embarrassing) reason I started Campuswink

So this is a vulnerable and slightly embarrassing post but it's the exact reason I started CampusWink and now I'm confident we've figured out a better way to navigate this whole college process so we are trying to get the word out (Admin Approved)
When we moved from the mountains of Colorado to Atlanta, I was thrilled that my kids wanted to go to SEC schools. They'd be closer to home—win!
Then it hit me... they didn't know anyone there
AND they wanted to join Greek Life! If you know SEC schools, it's super competitive to join a sorority. Basically you either need connections, perfect grades, be a competitive dancer or have a huge insta following —-did I mention you need to know someone?
So naturally... I went into full helicopter mom mode like I always had.
Here's the embarrassing part:
I found a girl in a top sorority selling a dress online. My genius plan? Buy the dress, have my daughter pick it up, and this girl would instantly see how amazing my daughter was and... ensure a bid.
Brilliant, right?
Nope.
We Venmoed the sorority girl and bought the $100 dress. Then a week later we drove a couple hours to campus. My daughter messaged her to say we were here...
And the girl replied:
"I'm at work, my roommate will leave it on the porch."
Wait... WHAT?!
There went my master plan
We grabbed the dress (too big, by the way), walked around campus, got lunch... my daughter thought the whole thing was hilarious.
I was annoyed I was out $100 with zero
"connection."
Fast forward a year...
My daughter ended up LOVING her college-and hadn't even gone through with recruitment.
Why?
Because someone had connected her with a current student for a FaceTime call who told her the truth:
You don't need Greek life to have an amazing experience. You can still go to parties, make friends, and find your people.
That one conversation changed everything.
At the same time, my son (at another SEC school and in Greek Life) was thriving too. A college counselor friend asked if I had ideas for her client who would be visiting his campus.
I said, "I'll do you one better." My son's friend gave him a custom, major-specific tour-real conversation, real insight, everything you'd never get on a standard tour.
That student chose the school.
Those two experiences stuck with me.
And I realized:
There needed to be a way for prospective students to talk directly to current college students-to ask real questions, get honest answers, and actually understand what life is like. Not the polished version. The real version.
Beyond that: Not everyone has a connection at every school to get that info and so many times the official tour is full or not offered AND with costs and work/school/sports schedules sometimes it can become impossible to even make it to campus.
So we built Campuswink.
We've now recruited close to 500 incredible college students across 180 colleges who want to help. (Guides are compensated fairly for their time)
Through virtual sessions and custom in person campus tours,
They're answering the questions that actually matter:
What's Greek life really like?
Where do you find your people?
What do you wish you knew?
Dorms, safety, study abroad, classes, professors, food—-those questions you simply cannot ask on the Group Tour!
Our Guides even help applicants craft better
"Why Us" essays by providing the real, specific insights they can we've into their essays. (Our essay expert partners love us for this) And something we didn't expect?
We're getting kids talking again.
Real conversations. Cameras on. Humans connecting.
So yes... Campuswink exists because I once tried to network my daughter into a sorority... by buying a dress
There is a better way.
Skip the $100 dress that doesn't fit.
Just talk to someone who's living it.
